The day is nearly here to launch the first edition of the Emerald Messenger – a Hills Community Journal. The Emerald Messenger will make its debut July 29 following the 2018 Woorilla Poetry Prize awards ceremony at Gemco Theatre in Emerald.
In the tradition of a long literary practice in the hills, it’s fitting that this bright, new publication reveals and records the life, times and style of 21st century Dandenong Ranges residents, their activities, local events, commentary and engaging stories. Our version of slow journalism engages the community as partners by encouraging readers to respond to and contribute to producing the content of this monthly publication.
Although the dominant influence of digital/social media has contributed to a notion that “faster is better”, we believe that a balance of slow and to-go journalism offers a complete opportunity to engage with readers across the digital divide. We believe that it’s worth investing time and attention to write and publish stories and record events that inspire people to share, inform and discuss. For that reason, the Emerald Messenger will be available in both print and digital formats.
Contact the Messenger team to find out more information and book your spot at the launch party – firstname.lastname@example.org or call Emerald Community House on 5968 3881 during business hours if you would like to be involved.
